Those furry little buggers took us by surprise and Beverly Hills Chihuahua hung on to the number one spot for two consecutive weeks. Body of Lies surprised too, taking third place despite formidable star power before and behind the camera. Here's the top five:

What's It All About: In this video game adaptation, Mark Wahlberg plays a widowed cop with an attitude investigating a series of killings.
Why It Might Do Well: Director John Moore has obviously seen Sin City, so maybe some of Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez's dark and gritty neo noir cool will rub off. Based just on the number of theaters I'm betting this takes the number one spot.
Why It Might Not Do Well: Despite having enjoyed Resident Evil, I still cringe at the idea of a movie based on a video game.

Prediction: $24 million



The Secret Life of Bees
What's It All About: In this film based on Sue Monk Kidd's best-selling novel, Dakota Fanning and Jennifer Hudson play two friends who run away together in South Carolina in 1964. Three sisters take the two girls in and teach them how to raise bees. The film also stars Queen Latifah and Alicia Keys.
Why It Might Do Well: The book has its followers and the cast will make many take notice.
Why It Might Not Do Well: A 58% Rotten over at Rottentomatoes.com may not bode well, and the film's undeniable chick flick status will keep many testosterone- based life forms away.

Prediction: $4.5 million

Sex Drive
What's It All About: Determined not to start college as a virgin, a teenage nerd embarks upon a road trip from Chicago to Knoxville for a sexual liason with a hottie he met on the internet.
Why It Might Do Well: Well, this same plot worked pretty well for John Cusack in The Sure Thing, so why not? On a less cynical note, Rottentomatoes.com is giving the film a 70% Fresh rating.
Why It Might Not Do Well: The recycled plot mixed with an obvious attempt to duplicate Judd Apatow's style leaves me with serious doubts.
Number of Theaters: 2,400
Prediction: $8.5 million

What's It All About: Yes, one of The Goonies has been elected president. This biopic of George W. Bush stars Josh Brolin and is directed by Oliver Stone.
Why It Might Do Well: That Stone fellow has had a hit or two in his day.
Why It Might Not Do Well: There's plenty of Presidential shenanigans in the real world right now. Are people going to want to see more of it at the movies?
Number of Theaters: 2,000
Prediction: $15 million
